National Poetry Month Reading Series: Michael Torres and Gwen Westerman

Friday, April 16, 2021

April is National Poetry Month and we're celebrating at the BECLS! Join us (via Zoom) for weekly readings each Friday evening with acclaimed and emerging Minnesota poets—we hope you'll be inspired to write a few poems of your own! Michael Torres is a former National Endowment for the Arts Fellow, a current McKnight Writing Fellow, and a 2021-2022 Jerome Hill Artist Fellow. His first collection, An Incomplete List of Names, was one of NPR's Best Books of 2020. Currently, he teaches in the MFA program at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and through the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop. Gwen Westerman is an award-winning fiber artist as well as the author of Follow the Blackbirds and co-author of Mni Sota Makoce: The Land of the Dakota, which won a 2013 Minnesota Book Award. She teaches American and Native Nations literatures, Technical Communication, and Humanities to undergraduate and graduate students at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
