Storytime for Grown-ups

September Adult Storytime

Join us for September’s "Storytime for Grown-ups" — a fun, virtual storytelling event — on Thursday, September 24th at 8:00 p.m. The theme of the evening is "Music and Instruments."  Read about our guest storyteller, Eric Ouren below.  He will tell us a few tales about his craft and then play some silly songs for us using his own instruments!

Eric Ouren is a luthier from Kasota, MN who runs Ouren Instruments, a small used stringed-instrument and instrument repair store in North Mankato, MN. Ouren also builds traditional open-back banjos as well as other folk instruments and does custom instrument building.

Ouren began building stringed instruments in 2004 and is a 2019 graduate of the Minnesota State Southeast guitar build and repair program in Red Wing, MN. Ouren holds an MFA from the University of Iowa (1998) and a BFA from the University of Minnesota (1990), both in sculpture. He has taught at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN (2000-2018), Minnesota State Mankato in Mankato, MN (1999), The University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN (1999) and Bethel College in St. Paul, MN (1998). Ouren is married, has two grown children, a grandson, and two dogs.

You can sign up in the chat space that night to tell your own 5-minute story related to the evening’s theme! Or, feel free to just listen and enjoy. We hope you’ll join in the fun!
